How do I pick the right counselor for me?
You always get to choose your counselor. We want the counselor you work with to be the very best fit. When we look to bring on new counselors, we look for people that can cover a wide variety of issues. You always have a choice as to which clinician you see! If for any reason one of our counselors isn’t the right fit, we’ll glad to provide you information for others in the area who might be.
What kind of commitment is involved?
You are always in charge of your counseling. Before ever coming into the office, any of our therapists are glad to provide a complimentary 20 minute phone consultation to answer questions you might have.
We are also glad to provide one initial 55 minute session in-office to help you determine if it feels like a fit moving forward. There is no commitment. We are open handed regarding your care, and want you to be involved and in charge. We want you to feel comfortable and safe in each decision you make.

Do you have evening appointments?
We hope to make seeing your counselor as hassle free as possible. Depending on the therapist, we are able to offer times from early morning to as late as 8:00 p.m. We also provide weekend appointment hours.
Do you prescribe medication?
The staff at Hedman Counseling Center does not prescribe medication. We can, and often do, work collaboratively with prescribing physicians to ensure clients receive the best care. If you would like us to work with your current psychiatrist, just let us know and we will provide the proper form to complete. We are glad to refer you to a prescribing physician if you need one.
Where do I park?
Our parking lot is directly in front of the office building, offers plenty of parking, and is free of charge.
Is counseling confidential?
In Colorado Springs, it’s not unusual to run into someone you know around town. Our city has a very big, small-town feel. Because of that and many other reasons, we take your confidentiality very seriously. Not only is counseling protected by federal law, but we go well beyond what is required. We’d love to tell you more if you have questions.
How do I pay for counseling?
Understanding counseling, insurance, and payment can be confusing. If at any time you want our help, just let us know. We don’t directly bill your insurance for a number of reasons. Mostly it is because we want you to have complete control over your records. We’re glad to answer any questions you have about cost, insurance, and payment. It’s important to note that Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flex Spending Accounts (FSA) can also be used to cover counseling services.
Why don’t you take insurance directly?
You should be able to grow and change in a safe environment. At the core, counseling can be a vulnerable experience. That’s why we fiercely protect our client’s confidentiality and goals. In order to have insurance cover counseling, we have to diagnose you. Even if it’s not appropriate, there has to be a diagnosis. For example, if a couple comes in for counseling, for it to be covered, one person has to have a label. They determine the number of sessions and the frequency. We believe this should be you and your therapist’s choice. Sometimes you need shorter sessions or longer ones. Maybe you need them twice per week or once per month. When an insurance company is involved, they decide payment. Our clients enjoy the freedom to choose what is best along with their therapist. We want you to get the best quality of counseling treatment!
What if I have Out-of-Network health insurance benefits?
Hedman Counseling Center does not accept insurance directly. Charges may be covered under your insurance plan if you have Out-Of-Network benefits. To determine this, you must contact your insurance company directly. Ask them if they cover out-of-network for mental health. We will gladly provide you medical receipts for your sessions to assist you in getting reimbursed, if that is helpful to you. If we can be of any help with questions on payment and insurance, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
