Trauma often begins from a actual or perceived life-threat or as the end product of stressful experiences that have accumulated over time. Both types of stress can seriously impair our ability to be in our lives with resilience and ease.
Trauma may result from a wide variety of stressors such as accidents, invasive medical procedures, sexual or physical assault, emotional abuse, neglect, war, natural disasters, loss, birth trauma, or the cumulative stressors of ongoing fear and conflict.
The Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-oriented approach to the healing of trauma and other stress disorders. Somatic Experiencing releases traumatic shock from the physical and emotional body, which is key to transforming the symptoms of trauma and the wounds of emotional and early developmental attachment trauma.
Somatic Experiencing offers a framework for an SE therapist to assist clients who feel “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze responses. It provides tools to effectively resolve these physiological states, and skills to assist in healing the suffering of trauma and traumatic loss.
The SE approach works with the innate self-protection of the nervous system to facilitate healing. When our need to fight or flee has been thwarted, the body’s natural survival energy gets bound up in the body. SE helps to release what got ‘stuck’, therefore addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms.
SE is an extremely gentle, client and body centered approach to healing. Christine Limon is a brilliant, calm therapist and is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. Christine completed four years of post-graduate training in SE and would be glad to walk with you on your journey of healing. Give her a text or call today. We are built to heal.
